Tooth gems are a fun and unique way to add a little bit of sparkle to your smile. Unlike other dental jewellery, like grillz, tooth gems are applied directly to the tooth using a special adhesive. Tooth gems are available in a wide variety of colours and styles, so you can find the perfect look to match your personality.
Whether you are looking for a subtle touch of glamour or something more vibrant, tooth gems are a great way to express your individuality. Best of all, tooth gems are temporary, so you can change up your look as often as you like or keep them for months (or even years)!
At The House of Mouth™, we offer only the highest quality oral care products backed by research, used by millions, and most importantly that work. We are also now proud to offer professional and affordable in-chair dental scale and cleans and teeth whitening at our relaxed Burleigh Heads studio. Contact us today to book an appointment.
A History of Tooth Gems
Tooth gems are crystals, rhinestones, gold, and precious or semi-precious stones of varying sizes that can be fastened to your teeth with the aid of a high-quality dental bonding agent.
While tooth gems may seem like a new fad, the history actually stretches back further than you might imagine. In fact, there is evidence that the earliest historical European dental appliance dates back to around the seventh century BCE, making them over 2,500 years old. During this procedure, they removed all of a well-off woman’s healthy teeth and interlaced them with gold; sounds painful!
The Mayans also used dental jewellery back in the first millennium, where they drilled gems straight into the teeth. This took great skill and accuracy in order to be performed successfully – we promise that getting tooth gems from the House of Mouth will be nowhere near as painful!
How Do Tooth Gems Work?
Attaching a tooth gem nowadays is a fairly straightforward procedure. There is no need for drilling holes or removing teeth – we promise!
The procedure goes like this:
- We will clean your tooth to first prepare the tooth
- A composite will then be applied. This will act as the bonding agent for your jewellery.
- We will then use a jewel handler (or a tweezer) to place the gem on your tooth.
- Finally, we will blue light to cure and harden the composite. This takes less than a minute and ensures that the tooth gem is firmly attached in place.
Et voila! Now all you have to do is take good care of your tooth gem and you will have a dazzling smile for months or possibly years to come.

Will Tooth Gems Harm My Teeth?
Tooth gems are safe to use so long as they are applied by a professional.
At The House of Mouth™, we only use top-of-the-line tooth gems and dental bonding products so you will be confident in their longevity and aesthetics. With a multitude of colours and styles available, you are bound to find the right gem to match your personality.
How Long Do Tooth Gems Last?
The bonding we use at our studio is professional grade and very strong, similar to a filling. This means that your tooth gem will usually last around a few months, but it could last anywhere from three to twelve months (or longer). It all depends on how well you take care of them.
Taking good care of your tooth gems can help extend their lifespan so that you can enjoy their sparkle and charm for a long time!
